Comments on: How to View .FLV as Thumbnails in a Windows XP Folder

I installed the Full K-Lite Codec Pack and ran the flv.reg file and there are no thumbnails for FLV files. The K-Lite Codec must have changed in a newer version as it didn’t have the option to display thumbnails during the install which is probably the main reason. Please let me know how to go about this as I have a ton of FLV files.

I try your multi.reg but it seems to propmt error when I open my .mp4 folder using xp.
How to uninstall the above reg?

I have to say I found this Post to be very well written and very informative

I would like to stress thou that I originally came here via a Google search as I was have trouble with my .flv thumbnails view.

I personally used method 2 , however I have a slight difference , I had CCCP Codec Pack already installed so I did not need K-Lite……..

And Every “Video File” on my system is both playable and viewable via thumbnails.

Well, just as you thought you had it, with K-Lite 591 this feature unfortunately no longer works. I guess it’s back to the old basics again or keep with older versions.

Glad to see it’s working! And yes, windows update (or something ells) did manage mess up the thumbnails once again but as you say, the update of K-Lite fixed it (this time 590)!

Your correct Daniel -

If it stops working, it’s probably due to a windows update, just download the latest Full version of K-lite and it will start to work just as before.

any problems let me know.

This will also allow you to view avi’s MPG4′s as well as FLV’s plus a lot of others, which makes it so much easier to see what you have in a folder !

Ok, so I updated the K-Lite Codec Pack to 570 (feb 2010) and now explorer (WinXP pro SP3) shows thumbnails for both “normal” flv-files and those with H.264/mp4 containers. Others may perhaps confirm this.

Ok, good to know! But I believe that this is due to that some flv-files are rendered with a H264/AVC (MP4) container and those files don’t show up as thumbnails. “Normal” flash rendered videos, however, still give proper thumbnails. Maybe this could be something to look into?
