A Twitter Avalanche – The Marketers Recession Tool of 2009

Unless you have been living under a rock, I guess by now you have heard of a lot of Internet Marketers going over to Twitter for a Tweet!
Let’s go back to last year when i was first aware of Twitter. At the time i looked upon it as simply another social media site, where you can simply chat with friends and people you know.
Although I think I’m a very sociable type of guy, just sitting in front of my computer each day, reading about every aspect of peoples lives, was starting to loose it’s appeal.
Let’s face it , there only so many hours in the day, and reading about walking the dog, and what someone has just read, watched on TV, Eaten or simply remarks about how tired someone is, was to be frank with you was getting very very boring.
What’s the Big Deal with Twitter then?
So, What exactly is the Big Deal with Twitter?
Well, at first as I have already stated, I just didn’t “Get it”……………… I thought , well if this it, why bother, as your very limited to 140 characters of text anyway, and face-book and other social networks have far better facilities, including video and audio, let alone the fact you can use images, another thing that Twitter cannot do either. I was starting to think it was useless.
I stuck with it, and gradually over a period of weeks I noticed a lot more of the Big names and Marketing Guru’s appearing on twitter, I guess if they are starting to use it, they must know something i didn’t……….. But I was still not convinced!

Over a few months I continued to follow anyone I respected or simply liked the look of, and slowly my following of others increased, which led in turn to my followers increasing also. you se that is the beauty of Twitter, you can quickly build up a massive following extremely fast, and as we all know with list building, having people read your comments can be very rewarding.
But why as an Internet Marketer is it important you use it?
Well, it’s also termed as a “Micro blog” and if you know the benefits a blog can bring, then equallyTwitter has it’s place. Firstly it has mass appeal, and the search engines love it, For the purpose of SEO, it can quickly out perform many other social networks.
In my view, Twitter is simply the easiest and only method I know where you can make contact with anyone on the planet who also has a twitter account, and have them follow your Tweets, big name marketers, important and famous personalities also, there’s simply no where else like it.
What are the benefits to you?
Unlike emails, when you write a tweet, everyone who is following you will instantly see you message, and with some extra free tools and wordpress plug-ins, you can really make it sing. For example, a soon as i have finished this post, the title will immediately be sent out to Twitter………. So as you can guess, I make sure that it attracts attention as well as contain relevant keywords for SEO.
Here are some of the main points to consider
- Quick & Easy to use
- Keep in touch with anyone
- Announce specials, deals or sales
- Promote interesting news, blog articles, webinars, and Ustream shows
And probably one of the best things you will gain from Twitter, is an increase in your friendship with fellow marketers.
The result of all this is mass exposure to your blog, as long as you make your blog interesting, you will increase your readership, which in turn can lead to a large amount of traffic and leads, and boost your email subscribers or financial rewards.
Here is a video I made earlier today showing what happens every day i open my email account, it does not happen quite like this at first, as it exponentially grows over time, but it will give you some idea of what to expect once you become established in the Twitter community
