Thank you for this information, this is definitely the most helpful post I have seen about this. I have tried both of your suggestions, and they are not working…any other ideas?

When transferring the .htaccess file to my site root in filezilla, it says the directory listing is successful, but I cannot see the file in the folder.

The problem has actually gotten worse. Twice while writing this message I am being disconnected from the server and my browser closes.

I would GREATLY appreciate any further information or ideas you could offer!

I’m with Dreamhost, so it seems to be not only a 1 and 1 issue
