Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've beem going round and round fighting with installing FP11 and getting the same 'failed to register' error. You fix was the ONLY true fix to the problem.Well, to the install problem, anyway!
Now, if Adobe would get their collective heads out of their arses and stop causing the fail to register error in the first place!

Thank you for the Adobe Flash Player failed to register fix. It worked like a charm. Wish I'd found it before all the other tries that didn't.

Thank you for this information, this is definitely the most helpful post I have seen about this. I have tried both of your suggestions, and they are not working...any other ideas?

When transferring the .htaccess file to my site root in filezilla, it says the directory listing is successful, but I cannot see the file in the folder.

The problem has actually gotten worse. Twice while writing this message I am being disconnected from the server and my browser closes.

I would GREATLY appreciate any further information or ideas you could offer!

I installed the Full K-Lite Codec Pack and ran the flv.reg file and there are no thumbnails for FLV files. The K-Lite Codec must have changed in a newer version as it didn't have the option to display thumbnails during the install which is probably the main reason. Please let me know how to go about this as I have a ton of FLV files.

Thanks so much for the fix! I've been on one of those so-called chat help lines for hours with the IT folks for a class I'm taking at a local technical college and they were no help whatsoever.

I'm going to send an email to the sales rep (for the textbook company associated with the simulation software that I have to use with the hybrid course) with a link to your webpage showing where I finally found the help allowing me to get their software package to function. Their tech support just kept telling me to re-load the simulation software despite my stating that the Flash Player kept bombing.

Thank you a lot!
php.ini helped immediately
I'm with Dreamhost, so it seems to be not only a 1 and 1 issue
